Alright. I have been out of the mix for a little while, since I have just moved to Zimbabwe to take up a teaching position. Well, now I am back in the mix and I have been testing the various redactions of CXOffice with those of Logos series X.
Libronix 2.1c - 2.1d works rather well with CXoffice 5.0.1 and 5.0.3. I installed in a Win98 bottle and the installation does not seem to have too many problems. There is one quirk with installation- installation with the 'install windows programs' option of CXOffice seems to fail. But running the setup file with 'run a windows command' works well. Go figure.
I have also tested Libronix 2.1c and d with CXoffice versions 4.x and 6.0 and have not had much success. CXoffice 6.0 seemed to progress further than 4.x but it hangs on when running update.exe regardless of which bottle one uses. The Windows 98 bottle actually brings up the update dialog, but then hangs. In the Windows 2000 and XP bottles the setup also proceeds to the update portion of the install, but it does not show the dialog. (This may be due to some incompatibility with Beryl and AIGLX, but I am not sure about this). Whatever the reason, this part of the install also hangs.
In testing Logos 3.0 with 5.0.3 I have found that everything installs as it should, but the program does not display any windows or toolbars once loaded and is therefore useless. When I tested Logos 3.0 with CXOffice 4.x and then with 6.0 the setup did not succeed, hanging as it did with the 2.1c/d versions.
I have been working on a dependency list with my windows xp and logos 3.0 to try to isolate the cause of the failed program execution in my CXoffice 5.0.x versions. I have not yet isolated the cause of the problems, though I am making some progress. I am hoping some volunteers will come forward for backtracing in Linux and decompiling under windows. Let me know if you are interested.
