Dell and Microsoft closely collaborated on the development of Windows Server Foundation to build a solution tailored to meet small-business needs, while delivering all the functionalities of a full server. Windows Server Foundation is an ideal first server and can be deployed easily to create a single-server network. Windows Server Foundation can be deployed in a variety of ways to help meet your needs, including core infrastructure, active directory, terminal services (remote desktop) and line of business applications. Windows Server 2008 builds on the success and strengths of its predecessor Windows Server 2003, and also the new technology implemented in Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Windows Server 2003 R2, while delivering valuable new functionality and powerful improvements to the base operating system to provide solid foundation for information technology (IT.
I am currently runnning Microsofts Windows Server 2003 in my domain environment.the load on the server is pretty high,
it is currently running sharept, it is the file server, print server, as well as hosting some other applications.
Anyways i am looking at getting specs to a backup domain controller so i don't have everything riding on one server and also to speed the process along as far as getting people up and running again should the primary D.C. go down, not to mention peace of mind
Just wondering being server 2008 is being rolled out this year if i should wait for that O.S. or should i just go ahead with 2003
I am getting comfortable with 2003 and it is a stable O.S. which is making me lean toward that, with 2008 it is hard to say when it is rolled out what kind of issues there might be??
Does anyone no how long 2003 would be supported? what would be the advantages either way?
if i went with 2008 would it be easy to swith the primary Domain Controller which is 2003 to the new one which might be 2008?
Any ideas, thought, suggestions, would be appreciated!!
